6 Degrees of RANDOM: Child Chorus, Tevin Campbell, Prince Movies and Poetry.

Here is an example of the Child Chorus used in a non-post-apocalyptic setting- and probably the best execution ever. I mean its just a merry wonderland of old folks teaching happy children the joys of creating angelic music. I should recreate this with MPC's and ASR's and preteens... This video reminds me of the place I used to work...

Tevin Campbell & Quincy Jones- "Tomorrow"

Tevin's touching video got me thinking about Graffiti Bridge, which I just saw for the first time last week. Interesting film... kinda like the sequel to Purple Rain... for the sexually charged, spiritually awakened 12 year old. No, really.

So many bright colors.

And Ingrid Chavez.

Dancing. To 909s laid by Prince. Reciting Poetry.

Speaking of poetry, "White Collar, Blue Collar, Pop Yo Collar"!

And of course... All this got me thinking about my favorite Prince Movie, Under the Cherry Moon... WRECKA STOW!!! (8:45 into the clip...)

Under the Cherry Moon

Oh Yeah, more Tevin, covering Prince's "Shhh (Break it Down)"

Ok, I'm done!
Merry Christmas Eve... And Happy BirFday to me on FRIDAY!

Fool's Gold Holiday Party/ NY Weekend

I spent this past weekend in NY for the Fool's Gold Holiday Party and had a blast. I got a chance to hit up Santo's Party House for Q-Tip, Rich Medina and Vashtie's weekly, A-Trak and Kid Sister's holiday shindig, and The Rub's Anniversary Warehouse Party. The weekend was dope. I saw snow in a urban setting for the first time.

Everything was great except for JFK and the flight back to SF. A Nightmare. When it comes to aesthetic appeal, functional layout, communication infrastructure, and overall expericence, JFK Airport gets one large, massive, unavoidable, overdue FAIL.

Here are pictures of ME.
And some other people, of course.

Star struck with Primo.

Dave 1 of Chromeo.

Kid Sister, Cipha Sounds.

The Winter Solstice: I Can See the Sun in Late December...

Stevie Wonder - I Can See The Sun In Late December - Beat Club 1973 -
Stevie Wonder - "I Can See The Sun In Late December" Beat Club 1973

Today is the first day of winter. And because I'm in NYC to for the Fool's Gold Holiday Party, I'm really feeling it! I'm partial to Spring/Summer, but I can't front on my birth month...

I used to play the Roberta Flack version of this song to death in college. The intro and outro are my favorite parts...

Holler!

The Art of the Child Chorus: Post-Apocalyptic Cinema Edition [blogpost] 101

I have always been obsessed with the Child Chorus. It is a sacred art. In particular, I am enamored with its connection to post-apocalyptic cinema. There is nothing more perfectly complementary to the threat of certain death for the human race than an eerie, emotionless sea of juvenile moaning. Take a look...

Tina Turner- "We Don't Need Another Hero" theme from Mad Max

Blue States- "Season Song" theme from 28 Days Later

G Tom Mac- "Cry Little Sister" theme from The Lost Boys

Myx Music Label Launch: Joyo Velarde

Lyrics Born "Hot 2 Def" feat. Joyo Velarde and Charlie 2na (of Jurassic 5)

Last night I got a chance to catch Joyo Velarde @ the Boom Boom Room in SF for the launch of Myx TV's new label. I was excited because this was her first show headlining. She did a lot of material off of her upcoming album, dropping Spring 2009. The album is going to be fresh... Its about time!

Also, It was like a who's who of Bay Area Hip-Hop in the house... folks from Myx, Quannum, Skyblaze, ABB, damn near all of TRUE , and of course the Honor Roll, just to to name a few. Chief XL of Blackalicious was in the house as well! Oh yeah and a whole bunch of my twitter homies... There were also performances from Keelay & Zaire and Jern Eye.

The Name's Bond... Diddy Bond.

Sean John Bond... Oh and Jaime Foxx is also trying to be 007 as well...

Right?

2008 San Francisco International Auto Show

This past Friday Night, the Bike Maker and I went to the 2008 San Francisco International Auto Show at the Moscone Center...

This is what I'm talking about...

they're finally back...

And I'm trying to fool with every generation of Camaro...

And since I can't be Iron Man...

I'll take his R8...

And the A8 too...

The Dodge Challenger is probably one of the dopest throwbacks...

Let's just hope they don't blanket the world like the Charger did...

And when I finally reach 007 Status...

I'll take an Aston Martin along with the Tom Ford wardrobe...

If I ever move to Miami with nouveau riche rap star dreams...

A gentleman's Ferrari...

And normally I'm not a Porsche dude...

but a half a mil for some jet engines in the back seems reasonable...

And usually for me its 'Maros over 'Stangs...

But the Shelby and I are in good standing...
